About Snap Dragon

Snap Dragon was created by myself, Stephen Rencher, a civil engineer local to Fort Collins with an FAA Part 107 who has always had the desire to provide technical expertise but also act as a visual storyteller, whether that be through photographing the homes they’ve created, surveying land they’ve tended, or witnessing the places they’ve been.

Snap Dragon is a creative and professional tool focused on providing services to customers that are looking for a way to get a different perspective on their projects. This can be through Aerial footage, mapping, and inspections from a Drone, 360 footage of the interior of a home, as well as presenting these in narrative formats.

For adventure photography, the story is told through visual editing and still shots. For mapping and inspections, I provide a report containing the visual data gathered as well as the relevant maps in a manner relevant to the customer’s request.

Why

When preparing to hike the Camino Primativo, I wanted to document the landscape and history of the path in a way few had done before. So I packed my 22-liter bag with my customary hiking kit but added something extra—my drone. I would pull it out to capture the beauty of the landscape alongside the old buildings of people’s past achievements but I found my greatest joy was pulling my drone out in front of pilgrims from around the world and despite our language barriers and different life stories, a grin would spread across their faces as they came to the realization of what my drone was capturing. It was capturing stories and the magic of the Camino from a perspective rarely seen, a perspective that allowed for a story to be told— one they were a part of.

Snap Dragon is a means for me to learn new skills, connect with new people, and find new opportunities for me to apply the technical skillset I have developed through my professional career. But most importantly it is a way for me to reach people through a new medium.
